Transforming Excursions into “Real-Life” Stories for Learners of Different Functioning Levels
Overview
This is a workshop that challenges participants to think outside the box about breaking down the steps of the writing process by forming a story from scratch and customising them to match learners of various functioning levels. Such an approach aims to transform the intimidating process of writing into an engaging writing experience for the students, even as it pushes them to reach above their level of proficiency. Just as significantly, participants will learn how they can involve special needs learners with limited language skills in the writing process.
Using the theme of outings or excursions as content for real-life stories, I will demonstrate how participants can set up story writing activities for learners of varying functioning levels based on these outings. Specific samples of story writing materials and templates will be shown and explored.
