Functional Behavioural Assessments: Diagnose, Design, Execute and Evaluate
Overview
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the tool of Functional Behavioural Assessments (FBAs) – a comprehensive and practical tool for addressing challenging behaviours of individual students in the classroom. FBAs offer a systematic template for educators to conduct an objective and broad analysis of the problem situation so that individualised and customised solutions for students can be mapped out.
The objectivity of FBAs with their focus on resolving problem behaviours encourages all parties involved to identify all possible causes of problem behaviours, which could be attributed to student, teacher, or the environment. Incorporating the complex interaction of these possible diverse factors, FBAs helps parties involved to move away from the tendency to lay blame on one person or another. Rather, the emphasis is on striving for solutions to resolve these problem behaviours.
