Bridging Life and Learning: Creating an Individualised and Customised Learning Programme!
Overview
Many parents of children with special needs encounter difficulties in motivating their children to respond to conventional learning materials such as worksheets and the lecture method of teaching. Because of this poor response, parents automatically assume that their children are poor learners due to their diverse learning deficits.
However, by creating and using simple, but creative learning materials that enable these children to mix reading, writing and computing with tactile and kinaesthetic activities, parents would be able to inject life into the learning process. These tasks appeal to children with autism who have visual, tactile and kinesthetic learning styles. In addition, by bringing real-life events and experiences into the learning activities/worksheets and programmes, parents will be able to engage their children who see that their learning is meaningful and purposeful.
